Midwest Academic Talent Search

On Tuesday, October 2, I will be meeting with Lincoln students who qualify for Midwest Academic Talent Search. MATS is a program out of Northwestern University that identifies students of high academic ability. Students qualify by scoring in the Pass+ range on the ISTEP in language arts or math. Information about MATS will be passed out at this meeting to take home to their family.

There are several specific benefits for students who participate in MATS. Students get an individual assessment of his or her abilities, which will help with future academic plans. Students get practice taking the SAT or ACT, which will be taken in the future for college admissions. Students receive information about educational programs for academically gifted students.

Students who participate in the program take the SAT on January 26, 2008 or ACT on February 9, 2008. The tests are given at several area locations. Because of the cost (SAT is $75.00; ACT is $62.00), participation in this program is at the discretion of the student and his/her family. If a student wants to participate, an application must be filled out and mailed by October 30, 2007.
